Preset/On-The-Fly Game Variants
For those of you who have played Halo, there were many gametype customizations that you could save and then play. Changes were anything from score to win to weapons available. I think the amount of options for Ascension could be great, choosing deployable counts, score to win, etc. There would be three choices: Map Default, Game Default, and Custom (pretty self-explanatory). These can be saved to presets, and maybe set to different maps automatically, giving servers more and more power over the game.

The custom presets in Halo were a nice feature. My fiancee's brother had some very interesting names for them...
I have to say I'm a big supporter of server-side options. I like for as many things as possible to have on/off switches as well as configurable numbers. A thought I posted in a thread earlier was that it could have on/off/default options, saved on a per-map basis in the server's playlist. If it also had options to override each setting with a specific number on each individual map, that would be perfect. Edit: Specifically, what I'm thinking is... you arrange the server's map list however you like, with the option of having multiple instances of the same map in the playlist, and you could set options for each instance. For example, a server could run Katabatic with map defaults, then again with base destruction disabled and twice as many landspikes, or whatever setup the admin thought was appropriate. The map could play more than once in the list with different options each time to add variety. Or, say there's a really good map, but it has some controversial issue. Half of the players like it one way, half like it another. The server could alternate rulesets and take turns doing both. Last edited by IceMaster : 07-25-2007 at 01:19 AM. |

I think with your idea ice is a nice one. I do foresee if you have it on random you may get stuck play less popular options which me detour people from that server. Having Admin in the server and the ability to set these rules before or during the map would prove more accomadating and give the server admins the ability to cater to the players on their servers.

Yahoo! Game options!!! I like it, we need to have options for everything, including, if possible some crazy variants like lo-grav and insta-kill, or game speed
if we can do that, maybe even some spawn with random wep/armor would rock for deathmatch woot!
