[Gametype] Hive Mind
Hive Mind
Idea: There are two teams. Team 1 has a player assigned as, let's say, the Queen. Team 1 knows who the Queen is and needs to protect her at all costs. Team 2 fights to kill the Queen. Rules: All of Team 1 knows who the Queen is as it is displayed on the HUD or something. However, the Queen does not look any different than the other players on team 1. If Team 2 manages to kill the Queen before time is up, Team 2 wins, otherwise Team 1 wins. Since everyone on Team 1 looks the same, this allows for decoys and decoys for decoys etc. There are still things to iron out like how to not make the game boring for the Queen (shorter game length maybe?) Your thoughts? |

Hmm can be fun. It is similar to other gametypes I have played except that Team 2 doesn't know who is the queen.
Angel you should host a server where only new and extreme gametypes are played in rotation. |

the queen should be able to pass off being queen to other people .. and also maybe have some kindof level up system where the longer a single queen stays alive, the more powerful weapons you get access to , or maybe more energy , more ammo etc..

If this is created i would like to see the "Queen" giving birth to the other players on the team as a form of spawning...full animation...and cottage cheese...k I'm done now

Oh, no, Team 2 doesn't get a Queen nor do they know who the Queen is on Team 1.

So it isn’t easy to figure out she is the queen. And 2. it would insure the queen always had escorts to keep her alive. Umm the whole Idea is just a mutant form of team rabbit... isn't it? Any way I do feel that there should be a trade off of teams some how. Like the old T2 game ware one team protects there assets wile the other attacks, then it switch’s off, and the defenders become the attackers. |

I dunno. The whole "trade off" where they switch roles after each game I don't think is necessary. It's just pub. If you're on the team protecting the Queen, you're just protecting the Queen. If you're attacking, you're attacking.

Well but then one team might get bored, and i think especially the queen would get very bored. What is the Queen was a really kickass bot that you had to protect?

I'd imagine the queen being a kick-ass medium or heavy. Probably heavy. Say the boost of light or something, but reduced ski ability, giving it great mobility and dodging but preventing the queen from having a ridiculous ability to run away. Force it to stay outdoors, making it rely on deployables and friendlies with repair packs to keep them alive. Keeps it a team game. Make it kind of obvious who the queen is, so it's essentially VIP on crack. Don't make it a one-kill-ends-the-game kind of thing, make it first to 5 or something. Queens would be randomly assigned for pubs, but for matches it could be each team selects their queen.

Well the idea is that the Queen WOULD get randomly assigned. Also, what I meant by how it doesn't change teams: There wouldn't be two rounds in one match where whoever kills the Queen in less time wins. It'll just be round after round. However, the objectives of the teams will switch after each round.
Does that make sense? And the Queen getting bored: I thought of this and I think I might have some sort of solution.... Perhaps the Queen should get an objective that only Queen can pull off. Maybe it can be something like whoever the Queen kills, that person will get team changed so now they need to protect the Queen. This is more like my original idea I had when I posted this for a gametype. Now the game is more like a mutation of Zombie or moreso like Vampire and ghouls vs Humans. *shrug* Last edited by Guardian : 01-15-2008 at 06:15 PM. |

I think I'd rather have that Burger King HUD with the king staring at me the entire time. It's a tough choice.

O.o BK HUD... I think he might just look freaky enough to easily keep about any normal person awake...
Also I don't think the queen will ever get bored if they are the only spawn point. Sure, it'll take the other team a minute or two to figure out who is the queen (unless the heavy idea is implemented, pretty obvious then) but once they know who to kill the queen won't be bored anymore I'm sure. Perhaps we should make a kind of caste system for the hive team? Warriors (an armor and specific weapons), Builders '', Bodyguards '', Drones '', etc. I just though that this would make it feel more like a viable hive society (I think the Drone's job would be that the queen could not spawn others unless a drone is nearby, the drone would otherwise be a weak, almost defenseless, but faster than heck armor ... maybe give the drone a higher weight or make it fall faster some other way if the physics are more realistic than that so that it falls faster, make the jets on it uber and make the thing heavier than heck anyway, that way any player it collided with very fast would be squashed vehicle style (close enough to a bg bad stinger I guess, or you could give it a weapon that looked like a stinger, was melee only, and injected a poison that continuously hurts the victim untill they get to an inven.)) Just a pile of ideas here.
