[Gametype] MiTD.

I was just thinking of an old-type kids game called Murder in The Dark and thought it could become an awesome gametype for Ascension, now of course it won't make you completely blind like the children's game (that would suck) but other than turning the lights off and on pretty much all the rest would be left in.

The basic idea of Murder in The Dark is that one person starts out as the murderer... only they know who they are, that person has to kill off all of the other players without them figuring out who it is.

Rule #1: When there are only two players left, the one who is not the murderer automatically dies.

Rule #2: Depending on the number of players, the boundaries of this gametype on a map are much smaller than for other gametypes, the penalty for going out of bounds, is a constant health drain. (This prevents NooBs from hiding out in the far corners of the map.) Also the best maps for this gametype would be either completely indoors, or at least very urban, anything else could possibly result in a very high difficulty for the murderer (which you might want actually).

Rule #3: The murderer is selected randomly at the start and is equipped with a unique weapon that either fires tracer rounds, or is a melee weapon (which I personally would prefer).

Rule #4: All weapons are instakill with a large effect radius-but not on the user. (This both keeps people from clumping together because the murderer could kill them all at once, and at the same time makes it a fair fight between the murderer and the other players if he is discovered.) Edited:

Rule #5: All players can damage all other players, the last player/players standing, (Murderer, or the people who survived and executed them) is/are the winner/winners.

Rule #6: Dead players can only communicate with each other, not the living ones and vice-versa. (We would need some type of protection to ensure no one was using teamspeak-or a method to keep them from using teamspeak or similar programs to cheat.)

Rule #7: If you are not the murderer, killing another player who is not the murderer will result in instant death and grant you the title of "Minion". (This prevents morons from killing everyone else in order to find the Murderer.)

Rule #8: If a player executes the murderer, he gets the title of "Detective Genius", and the murderer gets the title "Small-Time Serial Killer".

Rule #9: If the murderer succeeds in killing off the other players, he gets the title of "Mastermind Serial-Killer", and all other players (except minions) get the title "Victim", with the exception of the last non-murderer character, who gets "Last NooB standing".

Rule #10: If a player executes the murderer and another player dies in the same attack, the executing player receives no penalty, and is the "Detective Genius", the executed murderer gets the title "Scum" for taking a hostage/hostages, and the hostage/hostages get the title/titles "Honorable Hostage".

Rule #11: If a player is killed, the chat message stating their death just says "Player Soandso was murdered!" if the murderer got him, but it says "Player Soandso was murdered by the Minion Soandsono2" if the player was killed by a stupid minion, and it says "Player Soandso was executed for murder by the Detective Genius Soandsono2" if the murderer is executed. Likewise, if the murderer manages to take a hostage with him, it says "Player Soandso executed the murderer Soandsono2, but unfortunately a hostage/hostages Soandsono3, Soandsono4 etc. died as well". (This is done to keep people from learning the identity of the murderer from the chat unless he is the winner or is executed.

I think that covers all the possibilities for this game, and I think the rules will keep it fairly balanced. Of course there are variants, (like multiple murderers if enough people are playing). But if you think of any other ones just say so in this thread. The game name could really be a lot of different things, but I preferred MiTD or or something cool, like "Darkness Reigns" or "Psychopath".

Rule 7 repeats rule 4.

It sounds good.
